The exhibition, organized by the Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) and the Fundación Francisco Giner de los Ríos, offers an exclusive panoramic of Giner and the institutionalizing Project, which was not only pedagogical. Education, conceived as a motor of social change, included scientific and cultural modernization and social reform.
The exhibit goes through Giner's biography and the renovating project, which was developed thanks to several platforms such as the Museo Pedagógico Nacional (1882), the Instituto de Reformas Sociales (1883) or the Junta para Ampliación de Estudios (1907) and its centres, for instance the Residencia de Estudiantes. In the second part of the exhibition it deals with the vigility and currency of the institutionalizing purpose and of its main signs of identity: innovation in education and in scientific and technical research, defence of the environment and of the culture as our Heritage.
The exhibition, which is open until April 10th 2016, is the result of the effort of many years of documental rescue, which is usually possible because of the donations of families and particulars and research and publications.
These 400 elements that conform the exhibition (paintings, sculptures, documents, photographies, shooting of that time, letters, furniture, toys, clothes, books, magazines, manuscripts and other objects), some of them have not been seen before or are quite weird, come from institutions such as the Museo del Padro, the Biblioteca Nacional, the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC), the Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas, the Museo Sorolla or the Residencia de Estudiantes, among others. Aureliano de Beruete, Joaquín Sorolla, Emilia Pardon Bazán, Federico García Lorca, Maruja Mallo, Benjamín Palencia, Alberto García-Alix, Eduardo Arroyo or Darío Villalba are some of the creators that are present in the exhibition and all of them are related in a way or another to the Institución Libre de Enseñanza.
